I love this list and I love your intention for accomplishing these items! (I smiled when I read #98). Can I help you with #84? I’m not a great joke-teller, but I like this one:
– “Whoa, I just remembered my dream last night!! I dreamt that I was a muffler.” (people will give you a funny look, so keep explaining): “Yeah, like on a car. I *was* actually the muffler!”
(Give this a bit of time to sink in, then shake your head a bit, looking worn out): “I woke up exhausted.”

Nadine, you are my first comment on this page – how exciting!
AND, your joke is the first item on my list to be accomplished – double-exciting!
I love your joke (though I admit that it took me a second to ‘get it’) – and plan on telling it to my husband tomorrow (and to anyone else who will listen).
#84 – done. Yay! 🙂 Thank you for that!

Re #90:
It’s apple season.
Buy some apples. Wash and then core them. Cut em up in chunks.
Toss em in a saucepan (peels on) with a little water, a little sugar.
Cook em gently until they’re soft.
Put through a Foley food mill (takes care of peels which will, however, have tinted the applesauce a lovely rosy color).
Eat.
Time expended: Ten minutes? Five? Dee-lish.
LikeLike
Thank you for this Judith! I’m excited to try it!
A few questions: How long is “until they’re soft”? (I.e., 5 minutes? 20? An hour?)
How much is “a little” sugar/water? (A teaspoon? A tablespoon? A cup?)
Where does one get a Foley food mill?
Finally – what kind of apples do you recommend?

Carla, I seriously considered putting the AT on my list – but I thought I had enough ‘doozies’ on there for this pass. 🙂 However, I can see myself doing this type of list again – and if I do, I will absolutely consider the AT. I will need a good guide, though…
LikeLike
You can just step on it somewhere – you don’t have to hike the whole thing – just walk a mile or two on it and eat some Nutella in a place with a good view.
And as soon as I’m putting together my AT retreats, I promise you’ll be in the know! 🙂 Within a year or two . . .

When you map out your retreat, please make a spot called “Stef’s Rest” – and that will be the wonderful view with Nutella munching. 🙂

I’m going to offera suggestion for 32. Attend a self defense class. Just a thought.
LikeLike
I took a self-defense class in college for a semester. I took it with a good friend, and she and I *really* got into it. We were not shy about throwing each other around (and on to the ground), picking each other up and ‘attacking’ each other, etc… It was good practice, and also a lot of fun. 🙂

We live walking distance to Penzys and get all of our spices there. Fox point is one of or favorites, and the cinnamons there are outstanding. It makes our home made applesauce (#90) taste so good.
Here is another idea…pick apples from an orchard (don’t know if this is something you have done). Then make the apples into applesauce and use spices from Penzys. A trifecta of culture.
LikeLike
What is “fox point” made from and usually used for? And what is your preferred homemade applesauce recipe (and method)? I have picked apples at an orchard before – but I agree that Penzys + fresh apples + homemade sauce = a perfect trifecta. 🙂

A little late on the reply, but Fox Point has salt, shallots, chives, garlic, onion, and green peppercorns. It’s good on anything. My favorite is matzo topped with havarti cheese, tomato, and cucumber. Sprinkle a little Fox Point on it and it’s wonderful. Substitue matzo with bagel and it’s just as good.

Ooohhh, that sounds like a great combo! I may have to follow your suggestion on that one… 🙂

Fantastic list! You have some very original things on there! (I might steal some ideas, my list is not finished :P) I recently made a reverse bucketlist, things I had already done that were on other peoples lists. Honestly, I’m open. The only constraints I have are logistics (i.e., I have to actually have reasonable access to whatever task is being proposed; and ideally it won’t cost an exorbitant amount). Do you have any idea you’ve been pining to try that you would like to experience with a virtual buddy?

I love this idea!
I especially like that there are so many low-budget items and that you aim to do things in your state that you have not done before. I am sure there are many fun things in my extended neighborhood that I have never made it around to doing!

I can’t take credit for the “101 in 1001” idea – but I take full credit for my list. 🙂 I’m a frugal gal, and didn’t want a list of exorbitant items. (A few splurges are okay – but not 101 of them!) I also wanted to get to know my city/state more. They say that people don’t appreciate what is in their own back yard – and I don’t want to be that kind of person. The list has caused me to do things I honestly would not have done otherwise – I’m a big fan! I encourage folks to make their own lists if they are inclined to do so – I think it’s really a great idea. If you choose to make a list, I’d love to read it! 🙂

I just read your list…Loved it! 🙂 I had one of these lists in 2009…but I didn’t have a “tracker”…and it made it tough not knowing my deadline…then I got sidetracked, and forgot all about it. At the end of the year (2011) I decided to take the same concept…and complete 112 things in 2012. But before creating my current list, I printed my 101 in 1001 days list…and it was AMAZING to see how many things that I had completed off of it, even though I wasn’t meaning to. It is always such a great feeling to know that you accomplished a goal…Even if it’s just a silly one! 😀
Good luck on crossing off all the goals on your list!

I try and do one list item every week. Re. #101 – I have considered NaNoWriMo for the past five years at least. I have literally 10 novel ideas partly sketched out – but none just feel “right” to me. Not sure if I’m scared to actually try and see one through, or if I’m not disciplined enough to put in all the hard work to get to 50,000 words, or if I truly just haven’t connected with the right subject yet. So for now, I’m playing wait-and-see… So we’ll see. 🙂
