A friend to the rescue

Today was a pretty crappy day.  I’ll spare you the details, but suffice to say – by 5 pm, I wanted to punch something.  (And I’m not a violent person!)  Just so no one worries, let me confirm that I am fine, and my sweetie is fine, and as far as I know all of my family and friends are fine.  Nothing “tragic” happened today (thank God); I was just served annoyance after annoyance, and annoyance + fatigue + irritation = me wanting to strike out.  But – I kept my cool, and mustered as much calm and compassion and understanding as I could; so I did okay externally, but inside I was still pretty damn pissed.

So I get home this evening, and sit down to write today’s blog post; and realized that honestly, I didn’t experience anything today that was worthy of an entry.  I paused, reviewed the events of the day, and searched for even a tiny little something – anything! – to celebrate in the day; and came up with nothing.  Crap, that’s even MORE depressing!  Good god…

After a little bit more reflection, I did think of a few little things I could note; but they were kind of a stretch.  Still, I could get a gratitude list going if I needed to… (And to be clear, when I’m in this mental state, you better believe I NEED to.)

So I was about to whip up a “this-will-have-to-do” kind of a post when I decided to first check my email; and I’m very happy I did, because in my Inbox sat a little gem that I received earlier in the day.  A friend who follows this blog semi-closely sent me a note with the subject line: “Plane smiles”, and then this image:

Immediately, I smiled.  This friend must know me pretty well – this is exactly the type of item I adore for this space.  (And the type of item that makes my day [and life] brighter in general.)  This is just the kind of thing I like to find, and share; and I’m thrilled that my friend chose to share this item with me.  Especially today.

Thanks friend!  And thanks to all of you who read, and comment, and show interest.  My day went from crap to in a matter of a few minutes; and I’m really, really grateful for that.
