Over the past few months I’ve been noticing that I’m getting older. Seemingly overnight, I saw gray hairs grow, wrinkles appear, and my spine shrink. I’m having to face the reality that my body is not “mine” to control, and that physical changes will continue – whether I want them to or not.
This morning when I rose from bed, my back and legs felt rather stiff – and I was reminded once again that indeed, I am aging. Sigh. After I brushed my teeth and netied my nose, I performed my usual yoga routine of eight sun salutations. I perform the moves very gently and slowly – but the entire series only takes 10 minutes.
After I finished this brief bit of yoga, I stood up straight and tall (well, as “tall” as I can make my 5’4” frame) – and I felt much, much better. I felt more loose and limber, but also more calm and peaceful. Relaxed. Accepting – come what may.
