Three minutes

Over the past week or so I have noticed a shift in the duration of sunlight present in each day.  It’s slightly less dark when I leave for work every morning, and it is considerably brighter when I drive home.  I mentioned this to my sweetie, and he confirmed my observation.  In fact, he shared the tidbit that every day, we receive an additional three minutes of sunshine above-and-beyond what existed the previous day.

Today, I smiled at those wonderful 180 additional seconds.

What does this 3 minutes mean? I still don’t get it. How can there be an extra 3 minutes everyday from the previous day?

There’s three more minutes of sunshine in the current day than there was the previous day; so there’s three minutes less of darkness in the current day than there was the previous day. In other words, the sun rises a tiny bit earlier today than it did yesterday, and/or it sets a tiny bit later today than it did yesterday.

So, we still get the same 24-hours; it’s just that there’s more daylight in that set timeframe.

      Make sense?
