Fall is doing its very best to hang around as long as possible for us – and I appreciate the valiant efforts. Today the sun shone brightly, many trees blazed leaves of crimson and saffron and gold, the temperature reached a crisp-yet-pleasant 54 degrees (F)…
These transitional days are limited, and I’m grateful for every moment of brightness, warmth, and vitality that chooses to kiss my cheek and envelop me in a hug before the inevitable seasonal shift occurs, and the land slips into a cold, still slumber.
To take full advantage of the gifts being offered, this afternoon I enjoyed a long, lovely stroll. As I passed by a neighbor’s home, I saw a jovial little man greeting me:
However, upon closer inspection, I saw that the scene was actually slightly different from how I initially interpreted it. It seems that the small gentleman’s plight was a bit more dire than I first realized:
As I caught myself contemplating whether the cute lime guy was a prisoner or was being protected, I laughed out loud. Oh, anthropomorphization… 🙂

Lol! Today I came home to find a road barricade sitting in my yard. I’m not really sure how it got there and I don’t know if I should move it.

CB, that sounds like the work of neighborhood youth to me. As Halloween is approaching, sometimes kids get ‘unusual’ ideas… 😉

Maybe he has tried to escape before and they have to keep him secured so he doesn’t run away? Good chuckle. Lucky you have sun. Enjoy it. We go to work in the dark now and come home and it is as if a shade is pulled down rapidly and suddenly it is dark again. Brrrrr.

Ruth, I was thinking that maybe someone tried to ‘liberate’ him before, and his guardians weren’t so happy with that….
We are also approaching the time of year when both sides of the work commute occur in darkness. Fortunately daylight savings is next weekend…

Stef, this was so funny! I’m sure I’ve said it before, but I love how you take time to notice and reflect on things that SO EASILY could have just been passed by. It makes life- those tiny, little moments of everyday life- so much more enjoyable. Thanks for sharing!!

Nadine, you are most welcome. It really is the ‘little things’ in life that can take any ordinary day and elevate it to something truly unique or special. Just as a dash of salt can transform a meal, so too can a titch of humor or delight. 🙂

From someone who once had a Saint Francis feeding the birdies hand carved folk art whirl-i-gig stolen from my yard (stake and all), I can fully understand the chains. But it is funny as it makes the little dude look like a prisoner.

Nancy, I’m sorry to hear about the theft of your Saint Francis; not cool.
Especially with Halloween approaching, I understand why the little man has been ‘secured’. But yes, the image that immediately popped into my mind was that the little guy was a prisoner; and that made me laugh. I’m glad it caused you to smile, too. 🙂

Eliz, I think both guesses are probably pretty accurate claims. But our little friend is resilient! A little jostling or paint won’t get the best of him! 🙂 [May we all be that way…]
