Stationary silliness

This morning my sweetie and I went shopping for a birthday card for his mom. (Birthday gal [and family members who want a surprise], please don’t read further until after the big gift opening later this week. Thanks.) πŸ™‚

For the rest of you…

Shopping for greeting cards can be tricky. Some people like to go the sentimental path, which can turn cheesy very easily. Other people like to try the humor route, which can be a slippery slope to flat/boring or crass/offensive. I trend towards decorative cards – stationary with pretty designs and a few well-chosen words. However, my sweetie likes to do humor. Yet he has enough taste to know when a card is not funny, and/or not appropriate – which is great for the card recipient, but which can make finding a good card a bit of a chore.

So – this morning my sweetie and I went shopping for a birthday card for his mom. We found plenty of cards that were ‘blah’, a few that invoked a slight chuckle but were still much too predictable (and therefore not very funny), and several cards that were completely inappropriate. As we picked up, read, groaned, and replaced card after card, we finally stumbled on one that literally made me laugh out loud:

Hours later, I’m still chuckling a bit. Clean, clever humor – I love it.

AWESOME! I love a funny card. The punnier, the better. Tounge-in-cheek offensive and crass also good. I had to share this one with my wife. I hope to find it somewhere myself.

That’s a good one. I also hate looking through all of the cards to find one that I like. It is amazing how many of them suck.

And I am the lucky recipient and it made me laugh – loved it – and the gift too! I am the lucky person who got to share my Thanksgiving and birthday with my family – awesome!

Dodie, I’m so happy you liked the card! As soon as Joel and I saw it, we knew it was the one to get. πŸ™‚ I’m also glad that we got to spend the day (week) with you; having family nearby is a gift.
