Selfless giving

This morning at work I received an email about a conference that took place in New York City back in October.  The body of the message contained a small paragraph of authentic wisdom that made me beam.  The passage read,

Even after all these years,
the sun does not say to the earth,
“You owe me.”

Imagine a love like that!
It lights the whole sky.

~Hafiz

Later in the day I came across a letter to the editor that discussed the difference between paying someone back and ‘paying it forward’.  The author wrote,

“Paying it back is paying a debt.  Paying it forward is sharing grace.”

Again, I grinned.

Finally, this evening I flipped through a few pages of a magazine, and came across a Bible passage (of all things!).  [I’m not Christian {or Jewish}, and I don’t actively seek out biblical citations or references.]  The magazine cited Hebrews 10:24 – which says this,

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”

The Rule of Three, hard at work in my life once again.  How can I help but be both happy and grateful when I am clearly surrounded by powerful goodness?  🙂

I try to check out the blogs just before and after mine under the ‘PostADay2011’ tag, and yours was one of them today. I really like the sentiments/wisdom in the quotes you happened across, and I always pay attention to the ‘Rule of Three’ in my path as well. Cheers!

Hermionejh, I frequently do the same thing (i.e., explore the blogs near mine in the PostADay2011 tag) – and have met some cool people in the process. I’m delighted our paths crossed today! 🙂 Thank you for reading, and for taking the time to comment; I truly appreciate it!

  2. Wow. First of all, I LOVE that quote from Hafiz. I’m going to have to print that out and hang it somewhere noticeable.
Second, I subscribe to a verse-of-the-day iCal calendar, which gives me a “random” Bible verse at the beginning of each day. And my verse for today was HEBREWS 10:24! What it means that you and I had the same verse today, I’m not sure. But it’s pretty cool!
    Thanks for sharing. 🙂
