Hi everyone,
I’m going to be at a meditation retreat for the next several days, so I’m going to ‘off the grid’ as far as blogging, email, and technology are concerned. I should be back to the blog sometime in the next 7-10 days or so.
In the meantime, if you’d like to read about what I’ll likely be doing during my time away, you can do so here.
And if you want to see a funny, fantastic talk that help explains why I meditate at all, you can check that out here. (Minutes 8 and 11 are the obvious connections; but I’d encourage you to watch the full 12-minute presentation. I laughed out loud more than once.) 🙂
I hope you all have a wonderful week/weekend, and I’ll catch up with you in a bit! Bye for now.
Stef
The Shawn Achor video is very funny, but also very thought-provoking. I can readily see the connection between his ideas and your blog.
I hope you enjoy your retreat. 🙂

And wow – to have my blog associated with his insight is an incredible compliment to me. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing this video! Besides being very funny, it makes a lot of excellent points. So many people get stuck in a negative rut, continuously raising their expectations so they never have or accomplish enough. Instead they should stop and smell the roses, every day. I like the idea of writing down 3 gratitudes every day. I’ve been thinking about doing this, but now I’m really motivated to do so. I also like the random act of kindness. Of course, I’d love to add meditation to the list but I think I need to start small…

I think staring with baby steps is a very good idea – and I think starting with gratitude is a wonderful place to begin. I wrote 3 gratitudes daily for over 2 years – and it really shifted my thinking. These days, when I’m having an ‘off’ day, I write a gratitude list (one example: https://smilekiddo.wordpress.com/2011/04/27/another-gratitude-list/), and I continue to be delighted (and amazed) at how effective it is. If you decide to start this practice, I’d love to hear how it’s going for you in a few weeks!

I should add this to my 101 in 1001 list, and it may not be too late to do so since I probably need to delete a couple of items that are irrelevant now. You’re really making me think about this…

I’m glad I’m making you think! 🙂 I think this would be a terrific addition to your 101 list – I vote go for it!

Thanks Jonathan. 🙂 I won’t say that the retreat was ‘enjoyable’ in the traditional vacation sense, but I did learn some things, so that is always a good outcome in my opinion.
