A delightful little manifesto

Recently a few people in my life have begun to toy with the idea of ‘creating’.  If you are also considering maybe putting pen to paper, or plunking around on an instrument, or testing out your vocal chords, or shaking your booty (or whatever else God and your mama and daddy gave you)… Or if you are already deep in the throes of writing, drawing, singing, dancing, or otherwise creating – but feel like some days you might need a little boost, a little nudge, a little ‘reason’ to engage… You are all invited to take a peek at this brief 90 second video:

My favorite line: “Just put it out, and let the world decide.”

Amen brother!

Don’t spend your precious time wondering (or worse, worrying); just do your thing, have some fun, get whatever it is that you choose to make ‘out there’ – and let others discover the genius of it.

🙂

Sounds like very good advice, I’m often guilty of worrying too much what others think. 🙂

In my past, I have been incredibly prone to the opinions of others. Now I’m doing my best to listen to my heart instead of their words. Some days it’s still difficult; but when I do it, I usually feel amazing! 🙂

Whoa, Stef! I can’t think of anything you could have posted that spoke more directly to me at this very moment.
I was just about to pack it in.
Thanks for the “not so fast” and “just go ahead and do it”
and for the “Just put it out, and let the world decide.”
Thank you for the smile, kiddo!

  6. I got the best advice from a single session with a therapist recently, as my creative juices were stuck. I have a lot of creative project ideas but just can’t them started. What she said turned out to be a lightbulb moment. Take money out of the equation, do it for fun only and the creative juices will flow. It’s actually a very difficult exercise but she’s so right! I really want to make a living out of my life passions but I first need to create out of them. You can see kids never worry about the financial part when they work on something and that’s why they’re so creative! Nothing inhibits them.

About 6 months ago I read a book with a similar theme, and I suspect you may find it interesting as well. It’s a super-quick read, but I think it packs a lot of wisdom. It’s called “Ignore Everybody; and 39 Other Keys to Creativity”, by Hugh MacLeod. If you choose to check it out, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
