Family fun via Facebook

Every night after I write my blog post, I publish the link on Facebook.  That way friends and family who don’t subscribe to the blog itself – but who still want to stay informed of some of the details of my life – can check things out as their time and interest allows.  (Why don’t people who are interested just subscribe?  I don’t know.  Mine is not to question why, but to simply do my part, and then let the results be whatever they are.  Anyway…)

You may recall that yesterday I wrote a cute little post about a baby deer near my yoga studio.  On Facebook, one of my uncles commented about an alligator and a Walmart – and his reply made me laugh out loud.  (I tried to write about the actual comment thread here so that I could share the humor with you; but if you don’t know my uncle, it all just loses something in the translation.  So please just trust me that the response was super-funny to me.)

This morning, I received a weekly email from Facebook telling me which of my friends had birthdays coming up over the next seven days – and there was my uncle!  And next to the picture of his smiling face, Facebook let me know that in a few days he is going to be 100 years old; and again, I laughed out loud.  [In the ‘real world’, he is nowhere close to that old.]  This type of silliness is so my uncle; and I delight in his quirky humor and good-natured spirit.

I adore that technology (in a variety of shapes, forms, and functions) helps facilitate connection between people (who are near, far, strangers, friends, family…).  But the electronic mechanisms are only as good as the people who use them.  I love that I have good people all around me who choose to use all of the tools at their disposal to actively stay connected with me; and I especially love it when these good people make me laugh.

Happy Birthday R – for real?  Either way, I love ya.

Like your SOH! Oldies are tricky things. My human tries to stay up-to-date with his friends on FB but half of them are so obsolete they think drums and smoke signals are high technology.

Hi Sandy, thanks for reading and commenting! I also have a few people in my life who eschew technology. But if a dog can have a blog, perhaps there is still hope for them? 🙂

Will he at least be 99?

    Probably not. 😦
